Snake River in Idaho

Got out of the truck for a nice long walk and some photography. Beautiful sunny day along the Snake River flowing through Idaho.

This area of lies along the Oregon trail though Idaho. Along this route in the mid 1800s approximately 400,000 settlers traveled the trail from Missouri to Oregon.

Not far from this spot is Massacre Rock, a narrow passage along the Oregon Trail where in August 1862 a wagon train was attacked by Indians ending in the death of 10 settlers. Hence the name Massacre Rock.

The rest area West of America Falls, ID offers access to the trails along the cliffs above the river. The area is teaming with wildlife, lots of birds, including Bald Eagles. A great area to take some photos and stretch your legs. Do be mindful of your step though, there are some snakes.
